How to Kill Head lice
How to kill head lice (Q1): Any remedy treatments for head lice?
Just wondering what’s the best way to make sure you get em all. Any home remedies anybody has tried

Get an over the counter lice medicine, such as Rid or Rid X. My mom has worked at an elementary school for 20 years and they suggest using this brand- as it really works well for getting rid of lice. It may be a little more pricey, but it is definitely worth it. Also, cut the hair. You have to go through the hair and pull out all of the dead lice bugs and eggs.
It is important and necessary to get all of the eggs out because they are not necessarily all killed with the Rid X shampoo. It should come with a metal or plastic comb. The metal works a lot better at taking out the eggs and bugs. This is why cutting the hair works out better too because it will take less time.
You also want to take all of the sheets, pillowcases, stuffed animals etc off the bed and replace it with fresh linens after you have shampooed and pulled the eggs and bugs out of the hair. Lice is a very time consuming bug.

If you don’t want to use a chemical on your child’s head, the most effective treatment that doesn’t involve using any products at all simply involves removing the nits and live lice with a lice comb and/or tweezers.
This is the method that is advocated by The National Pediculosis Association. It can be time consuming to do this and you may have to repeat the procedure for several days to make sure you get them all, but this is likely the best thing to do.
You still have to take the time to comb out all of the nits anyway even if you use an anti-lice shampoo, as these shampoos don’t kill the eggs. If you don’t, they will just hatch and you will have live lice again.
How to kill head lice (Q2): Lice ice treatment for head lice?

I am not familiar with it but go to webmd or mayoclinc.com. Both give you current info in language that you can understand without a medical degree.
A good home remedy is mayonnaise, coat your hair with a liberal amount, wrap head in plastic bag and leave on for 1 hour 45min to 2 hours minimum, over night is best, comb throughly then wash. The vinegar helps to kill the lice and nits while the oils help to suffocate them. It also helps your hair to be clean and soft due to the proteins from the eggs/egg substitute. I have used this many times on my kids with awesome results each time.

You should try mayo. it sounds gross but it kills the bugs.. put it on all through out the hair and make sure you get the scalp really good. cover it with a shower cap and try to seal it air tight. sleep with it over night and then do a comb through in small sections with a very tight comb to get the eggs too.

I don’t know about that, however, I do know that if you go to the health food store and purchase some Neem oil and/or Tea tree oil you add a couple of drops of it to you shampoo and leave it on your head for 15 min. with a cap over your head , it kills the lice and the nits/ eggs. Trust me I know. Last year my daughter got it, I tried everything then cut 7 in. off her hair finally resorting to the Neem oil and or/ Tea tree oil.

Dont share combs or hats

I’ve heard that those who use hair gel and hair spray are less likely to get lice, because the nits can’t adhere to the hair as well.
However, the previous poster got it right, in part. In addition to not sharing hats and combs, make sure coats are not hung next to others, don’t sleep in an infested bed, and frankly, don’t get too close to someone who is infested.
How to kill head lice (Q4): Home head lice treatment needed?

Most other natural home remedies involve putting something on your child’s scalp and hair to ’smother’ the head lice. Popular choices include real mayonnaise, olive oil, and vaseline.
These are usually left on overnight, often under a shower cap, and then washed out the next day. They can be very messy though and have not really been proven to work. Some experts believe that this method ‘works’ because you actually remove the nits and lice as you try to get this stuff out of the child’s hair.
There are also herbal remedies to treat head lice, including products with tea tree oil and other essential oils. Because they are ‘natural,’ these are not regulated by the FDA, have not been proven to work, and should be used with caution and avoided in younger children.

Search for head lice when hair is wet. Use a fine-toothed comb (or a louse comb), clear tape (to stick on hair to pick up nits), a magnifying glass, and a strong light.
Wet combing should be done every 2-3 days over a 2-week period, with small sections of hair, working out from the scalp. Some call this “bug busting,” and it can be very effective. If lice are found, treat with an anti-lice agent and repeat in 7-10 days to kill newly hatched nits.
