Head Lice Prevention
Head lice prevention (Q1): How do I get rid of the smell of head lice treatment?
I just put KP-24 lice treatment in my hair and I really hate the smell of it. The people at school tease you because of the smell and stuff
so I'm using pantene pro-V 3 minute stuff and other conditioners like that. So how do you get rid of the smell of KP-24.?

Half vinigar and half water will kill the smell...the only problem is, then you smell like vinegar... but you can tell your classmates you used it to strip off shampoo buildup.. they don't need to know it was lice shampoo... this is actually good for your hair also.

Perhaps try using a spray on moisturiser. I use a dark and lovely one for my hair which you can find in hair shops. It has a very nice smell to it and may get rid of the smell.
Head lice prevention (Q2): Head lice treatment which hardens the shells of the eggs?
I've heard of a new head lice which hardens the shells of the eggs so they cannot hatch as well as killing the adults. Has anyone any experience of using it? Does it have to be obtained on perscription?

This is a product developed by a team of American researchers. It's called the Louse Buster, it uses warm blown air to sterilise the lice eggs and make the adult louse infertile. They claim that the Louse Buster kills 98 percent of all louse eggs and 80 percent of the adults, which is supposedly enough to end the breeding cycle.
The Louse buster unit has a fine toothed comb attached which is shaped like a rake, it warms the air to around 60 degrees celcius which dries out the protective coating on the lice eggs and also harms the adult louse. Each treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
Head lice prevention (Q3): Pregnancy and head lice treatment?
I am 33 weeks pregnant and my girls came home today with head lice. I bought RID but, I am wondering if it is safe for me to treat my kids hair?

I asked the pharmacist just the other day because there was a breakout in my daughters class at school so I thought we could just all do ourselves and the pharmacist said that the natural products are all that can be used when pregnant.

This is gross, but you can use mayonnaise. Rub a very good amount thru the hair. Especially the roots. Put a shower cap over it and sleep in it over night. It really works! My girls brought lice home (they had hair to their waist) and gave it to me too. Tried the mayonnaise thing, thinking it would never work, but it did. Give that a try before you try any chemical.

I would definitely not use it. I have unfortunately had head lice from my daughter's school two times. This is what I have learned.
1. The chemicals are unnecessary and not good for anybody.
2. To get rid of them I used a natural product and lots and lots of combing with the little metal combs you can buy. It is important to wash all your bedding and coats and hats and scarves; anything that the lice may have been on and then can crawl back on you again. Vacuuming the entire house is often suggested to pick up the nits that may have fallen off with any hairs that may have been lost.
Some basic info on lice: Full grown lice cannot live off of their host for very long, so they don't pass quite as easily as you may think. The adults cannot jump or fly either. It takes around two weeks for the nits to hatch and create new adult lice. They are the hardest to get rid of and they are not affected by the poisons. The only way to get rid of the nits (eggs attached to the hair shaft) is to comb them out with the small metal comb. If you do all of the laundry and comb for two weeks straight, in the morning and before bed, you will be lice free. Consistency is the key.

Rid has a very strong odor to it and is really not safe for you to use and inhale. Lice MD. works better and has no bad odor. I had to use it on my daughter when she was in day care. Good luck
Head lice prevention (Q4): Any natural head lice killing remedies?
Does anyone know of any natural head lice killing remedies? I've already checked the internet?

Kerosene does work, but it is a rather drastic remedy these days. There is evidence that the mayonnaise or Vaseline idea may work as well, also olive oil. Leave them on for as long as possible - preferably overnight, which is what we did as children. You might help it along by wrapping the hair in a towel or tight cloth or in a shower cap while the solution is on.
When we were kids we used a fine toothed comb and combed them out and burned them as we caught them - I know, a bit gross. You also need to get the nits - the eggs on the strands of hair. You have to pull them off individually between your fingernails. You must either wash in very hot soapy water and dry in a hot dryer or store in a sealed plastic bag for two weeks. Lice do not live long off the human body.
A simple natural cure is to cut the hair very short and then use kerosene - makes it easier to control.
Lice tend to have cycles so they sometimes seem to disappear as quickly as they came, but they are very contagious. After years of experience with this issue, as a child, a parent, teacher and principal I would opt for an over-the-counter medication rather than natural remedies.

Pure tea tree oil is perfect but you must coat it on because as the other people have said they have to be suffocated. Lice can basically hold their breath for 10 - 15 minutes so you must leave anything you use on for longer than that....also make sure that you wash bedding, clothes hats etc as they can live for 24 hours with anything to feed on..
